After much prayer, God led founding pastor Rick Duncan and his wife Maryanne to start CVC in 1987.  As missionaries with an evangelistic passion, they founded the church to reach unchurched people and to present the gospel through culturally relevant Bible teaching, contemporary music, and dramas.
CVC met in local schools and endured years of the labor intensive “church in a truck”, where everything needed for Sunday service (children supplies, sound equipment, tables, coffee pots, signage, etc.) was stored on a truck, set up and then dismantled –week after week after week...

Looking for suitable property was next.  Only when the property search team regrouped and asked the question   “Where does God want CVC to locate to accomplish His purpose? did things start to fall into place.  The answer:  the corner of Wallings Road and I-77.  Miraculously, when approached individually, four home owners agreed to sell five parcels of land for a total of 16.5 acres with three houses.   Construction started in 1999.  The building opened it’s doors in 2001, under the capstone “To God Alone be the Glory”.

And since then we’ve seen the ministry grow. We went from two to three to four services.   Phase II construction took place quickly with the classroom space developed in the originally unfinished lower level.  Phase III saw the remainder of the Lower Level completed.  And most recently, we creatively reconfigured the space we had to make room for more seats in the worship center by taking out offices and classrooms and adding balcony space. parking space, and trailer space.

Along the way, the ministries developed.  One big step was the arrival of sevenoseven.  Rick Duncan determined that we needed to do more to reach the young adults (18-30+).  There was a void in that generation—as children, they go to church with their families, they leave home to go out into the world, and don’t return to church until they have children of their own.  Sevenoseven set out to capture this audience by meeting them right where they are.  In three short years an average of 1,200 people - full of energy and enthusiasm--coming to worship and learn about the Lord at CVC on Sunday nights.
